Episode 59 – Our Interview with Hollyanne Setola (hollyannes1337)

hollyanne

Hollyanne Setola is scoring headshots in all day for the glory of God — in Call of Duty, or Battlefield, or World of Warcraft, or . . . well you get the idea.

Hollyanne is a streamer on Twitch.tv who has made a name for herself on the site in a short time, though her gaming resume stretches back for years before then. I’d go on into her multitude of responsibilities and accomplishments, but I’ll just let you listen to the episode to find out what she’s up to.  Be sure to follow her and watch her stream when she’s online. Let’s help her get those 400 viewers she’s looking for!

Episode 58 – Shilling for Plaid Hat and Other Things We’re Interested in

This episode is a bit of a grab bag.  With so much news in the geek world with the revelation of the “Steam Box” – GTA V garnering the highest opening sales of literally any previous form of entertainment – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hitting the airwaves – Mike discovering the joys of Android Netrunner – and the “Project Awesome” reveal creeping ever so closer . . . yeah, we’re just going to be throwing stuff at the airwaves and watching to see what sticks.

Be sure to check out some friends of the podcast for their Agents of SHIELD specific podcast called Welcome to Level Seven.

If you wonder what video turned Mike from Netrunner skeptic to a believer – you can find it here. If only all game tutorial videos were this epic.

If you haven’t noticed it yet – We talk a lot about how Plaid Hat Games can do no wrong. Sadly, while Mike has become a full-on fanboy since Gencon, all we can do is point you to the site and check out what they’ve got until those fine, upstanding, devastatingly handsome . . . What’s that Luke? I can’t just use the fact that I post the episodes to continue my plans to get review copies? You’re not fun anymore.
Enjoy guys!

Episode 57 – God Loves the Freaks: Reflections on Gamers, Community, and the Gospel

Luke and Mike sit around and chat about the holding pattern where most of the news has already been shared, the big announcements have been made, and everyone’s just waiting for the craziness that comes with Christmas and/or the new year. The guys talk about Elder Sign, the books they’ve been reading, and the understanding that as good as games are – it’s the people that you play them with that make them beautiful and powerful.

Episode 56 – Does Jesus Need a Retcon?

When Luke first asked that question, it made everybody stop for second.  In case you’ve never heard the term, the definition of what it means to “retcon” something is to bring about the alteration of previously established facts in the continuity of a fictional work.  While the story of Christ is not fiction – there are times that our perception of Him and what He has done / is doing may stray from the text – let alone from the Son of God Himself.

In this episode we talk about a lot of things. Luke’s trip to Disney World, Mike’s trip to Gencon, the announcement of “Batfleck”  and the new Doctor Who. All of which eventually leads to the question in the title.

BONUS CONTENT – “Is it still Wednesday?” – a quick hit reaction to GenCon 2013

There will be other places and other episodes that look more at the activity of Mike’s trip to Gencon 2013 . . . but he thought it was important to record his thoughts about the emotional side of his first trip to the event.

Episode 55 – The Devil and the Dunwich Horror

In this episode – while Luke is enjoying Disneyland with his family, Mike asks a familiar guest host back by the name of Chris North. They once again stare into some of the darker sides of geek storytelling to discuss the Cthulhu Mythos of H.P. Lovecraft. They talk about how the two of them believe that while there is something dark and terrible brewing in Arkham – there is nothing to be feared.

Episode 54 – GenCon and Disney and Game-Day, oh my!

In this episode Mike and Luke talk about the trips they’ll be taking to GenCon Indy and Disney Land respectively. We talk about the use of gaming to introduce people into the church environment, the affect of gaming on the next generation, and explain the meaning of life . . . okay, maybe not that last bit, but the rest definitely gets talked about in this episdoe.

Episode 53 – Get Out of the Box

In this week’s episode – the guys confront the summer movie blockbusters, the Ouya, the steam trading card phenomenon and the idea of using your faith and collecting it.  Go out today and find some way to demonstrate your faith. We weren’t made to be mint-in-box and neither was our faith. It was designed to be played with. Used. And then past down to the next generation that will hopefully play with it as well.

We’re all weird.  It’s okay.  Christ is weird too.

BONUS CONTENT – Steam Summer Sale 2013

This is the first of what may or may not be a running thing with us.  Because this major event for PC gamers happened right smack in between our regular episode schedule – we figured we’d give you guys a little bonus content.  A short episode where Luke and Mike discuss the Steam Summer Sale, titles they are paying attention to, and a few pro-tips for guiding your way through the 11 days of steam sale.

Episode 52 — Two years of this stuff? Nice.

Two years ago a couple guys thought it would be fun to put together a podcast.  It started from humble beginnings where two generically geeky guys talk about generically geeky stuff from a Christian perspective.  It has evolved into a podcast where the same two guys are looking to create a new sort of ministry with the help of a listening community that is second to none.

Thanks for listening, everybody.  Luke and I really appreciate the fact that you keep coming back. Without you guys, this podcast would have ended long ago.  You continue to make it worthwhile to come back and make more content for you.  We look forward to many more years of this.  –Mike
